Verse by Verse is a Bible reading app. There is a free version that shows ads and a paid version that does not. This page says what the app does and does not do with data, in plain words. If something here is unclear, ask us.

No account

You never create an account. We do not know who you are, and nothing in the app asks for your name, e-mail address or anything else about you.

What stays on your phone

Your choice of church and Bible, your reading progress, your saved verses and your reminder time are stored on your phone only, in the app's own storage and, for the widget, in the app group shared with it. What you read, what you search for and what you save is never sent to us or to anyone else. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

What we measure

We count how the app is used, so we know what works and what to improve: which screens are opened, which features are used, which kind of Bible is chosen, and on what kind of device and app version. This is done through TelemetryDeck, a service built for exactly this, with servers in the European Union.

The counting is anonymous. The app makes an identifier on your phone, scrambles it so that it cannot be turned back into anything, and sends that along with each count; it is not shared with other apps and it is not your advertising identifier. TelemetryDeck does not keep your IP address. We see totals, never a person, and never a verse.

Ads, in the free version only

The free version shows ads served by an advertising partner. To show an ad and count that it was shown, that partner receives your IP address, basic information about your device, and, only if you allow it when iOS asks, your device's advertising identifier. What the partner does with that is governed by its own privacy policy. We will name the partner here, with a link to that policy, before the free version is in the App Store.

The paid version shows no ads and sends nothing to any advertising partner.

Buying the paid version

Purchases go through Apple. We never see your payment details; Apple only tells the app that the purchase was made.

Downloading a Bible

When you download a Bible, the app fetches that file from our server, packs.versebyverse.app. Like any web server, it sees your IP address and the name of the file for the duration of that request. We keep no logs that identify you. Bibles already on your phone need no connection at all.

Notifications

The daily verse reminder is scheduled locally on your phone. No server sends it, and no notification token is sent anywhere.

Sharing

When you share a verse, the app hands the image to the iOS share sheet. What happens next is between you and the app you share it with.

Children

We collect no personal data from anyone, children included.

Your rights

Because we hold nothing that identifies you, there is nothing for us to look up, correct or delete about you. If you want a fresh start anyway, deleting and reinstalling the app gives it a new anonymous identifier. You can write to us about any of this at support.

Changes

If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it.
